絹谷幸二 Koji Kinutani
絹谷 幸二（きぬたに こうじ）
1943年奈良県に生まれ、東京藝術大学大学院壁画科終了後、ヴェネツィア・アカデミアに留学。アフレスコ壁画の古典技法を修得し独創的なスタイルを確立する。
以後、半世紀に亘って日本の現代画壇をリードし後進の育成にも尽力。
現在、東京藝術大学名誉教授、日本藝術院会員。
2014年文化功労者顕彰、2021年文化勲章受章。
Born in Nara, 1943. After graduating from the Tokyo University of Fine Art and Music Oil Painting Department, he traveled to Italy for study at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts. There, he acquired ancient fresco-making techniques and developed his own unique style. Over the next half century he became a leader in the Japanese contemporary arts world and has devoted himself to nurturing the next generation. Currently he serves as honorary professor at the Tokyo University of Fine Art and Music and is a member of the Japan Art Academy. He was recognized as a Person of Cultural Merit by the Japanese government 2014. Received the Order of Culture.
